RWE has completed the start-up of the Pierrières solar park, located in the municipality of Ardillières, in southwestern France. The energy project began development in 2019 and obtained authorization in 2023, where it is operational after a construction process that lasted less than a year.

The recovery and start-up of the Pierrières solar park

By raising a former municipal landfill, the Pierrières park takes advantage of a previously unused space to produce green electricity. The facility covers 3.6 hectares spread over four plots, has 7420 solar panels and an installed capacity of 3.37 MWac.

This project is a source of income for the local community, which is located on municipal land that generates rental income as well as taxes from energy activity. According to Mayor Olivier Denéchaud, the resources generated will be used to finance infrastructure works such as the renovation of the local school.

RWE, one of Europe’s leading renewable energy companies, worked closely with local authorities to ensure the lowest possible environmental impact. The design of the solar park avoided ecologically avoided ecologically sensitive areas, and mitigation measures such as planting hedges, creating wildlife crossings and controlling the height of the panels for better landscape integration were implemented.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe and Australia, mentioned that the Pierrières park is part of a broader growth strategy in France. With this project, the company reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition and to the development of sustainable solutions that generate both environmental and social benefits.
