Blackford Dolphin rig wins drilling contract with Oil India

On March 15, it was announced that Dolphin Drilling, an offshore drilling contractor, will offshore drilling contractor has been awarded a drilling contract valued at US$154 million with Oil India. This is intended for use with the Blackford Dolphin platform.

Under the terms set forth in the definitive contract, Dolphin Drilling will deploy the Blackford Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig to support Oil India’s exploration and development activities, with operations expected to commence in the second half of 2024.

This agreement is a follow-up to the Letter of Award that Dolphin Drilling signed with Oil India in October 2023.

The contract covers a three-well drilling campaign with a firm duration of 14 months, representing a firm value of $154 million for the rig and associated services, plus an optional seven-month period.

It is important to note that the Blackford Dolphin platform, built in 1974 and undergoing major upgrades in 2008, is capable of operating in water depths of up to 1,829 meters and reaching maximum drilling depths of 9,144 meters.
