NAAREA has begun deploying its XAMR microreactor with the opening of its industrial testing center, the I-Lab . Located in Cormeilles-en-Parisis, this new 2,400 m² laboratory is designed to perform non-nuclear testing to support the development of technologies for its next-generation reactor.

A test center and the XAMR microreactor

The I-Lab houses three areas dedicated to the experimentation and validation of vital components for the microreactor. The first is an industrial area focused on the production of cooling salts and the prototyping of new systems. The future digital architecture of the production facilities will also be developed and validated in this area.

The second area is dedicated to the validation of the XAMR’s thermohydraulic components . This space will use test loops and test benches at different scales to simulate the microreactor’s conditions in a controlled environment.

Finally, the final area consists of three specialized laboratories: one for materials , focused on the study of corrosion and mechanical behavior; another for chemistry , for the analysis of materials and their purity; and a third for gases , which will address gas filtration and treatment in the microreactor .

Supported by France 2030 and the Ile-de-France region , this testing center is being used for the development of the ALIS project , which aims to ensure maximum safety in future microreactors. This joint effort with institutions such as the CNRS-IJCLab and iUMTEK aims to develop analytical tools to optimize the control and safety of XAMR.

This test facility is the right size to meet our needs and will accommodate large-scale test loops, as well as large materials and structures.

These tests and research projects are essential to our industrial objectives and mark a turning point on our path toward achieving them.

As a complement to the joint laboratory created with the CNRS and Paris-Saclay University, I-Lab opens a new phase of physical demonstration that was particularly important to us.
