Landatu Solar has successfully validated its SEAMOD prototype in the Port of Bilbao, a floating photovoltaic technology designed to operate in demanding marine conditions. This stage marks a milestone in its development, with a view to a future industrial scaling phase and an international funding round to accelerate its deployment.

The SEAMOD system has been designed as a modular platform that adapts to water surfaces and the technical challenges of the marine environment: waves, wind, corrosion, and anchoring complexity. Its structure is based on a combination of tensioned membranes and floating frames that provide structural rigidity and flexibility. This configuration allows for more agile assembly, using simple and transportable components.

Technical results and projection of the SEAMOD system

The 12×12 meter prototype has been installed in a port area of Bilbao, where technical tests have been carried out to evaluate its structural behavior and operational efficiency. This experimental phase provides key data to fine-tune the technology and prepare for its leap into larger-scale projects.

The system is designed to be integrated into hybridization schemes with offshore wind, expanding generation possibilities in offshore parks and optimizing the use of available space. By moving photovoltaics to the sea, the system helps decompress agricultural and urban land while maintaining high efficiency standards.

Institutional boost and growth strategy

This development is supported by the Basque Government’s HAZITEK program and has been co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Now, the company is preparing for an investment round to industrially scale the solution and expand its presence in international markets.

Founded in 2022, Landatu Solar specializes in photovoltaic solutions for aquatic environments and flat surfaces. With SEAMOD, it seeks to position itself as a leader in offshore solar generation, providing a flexible and scalable option for the global energy transition.
