On the occasion of the IAA Mobility 2025 trade fair in Munich, Horse Powertrain officially presented the new Horse C15, a range extender system designed to upgrade pure electric vehicles to extended-range models.

The development of the Horse C15 compact module

The Horse C15 integrates engine, generator, inverter and cooling system into a single, briefcase-sized unit. In addition, it is designed to be installed horizontally or vertically, either at the front or rear of the vehicle. This flexibility is strategic for manufacturers looking to quickly adapt their existing models without redesigning them from scratch.

By using Horse C15, manufacturers can reduce the size of the batteries in BEVs. batteries in BEVs, resulting in less weight, lower cost and lower demand for critical minerals.which translates into less weight, lower cost and less demand for critical minerals. In addition, by operating on gasoline, ethanol, methanol or synthetic fuels, the system can maintain a carbon footprint comparable to that of a pure electric when used with low-carbon fuels.

This system complies with Euro 7, China 7 and SULEV20 standards. It is available in naturally aspirated (70 kW) and turbocharged (120 kW) versions, allowing its use in both passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

Unlike traditional hybrids, the Horse C15’s combustion engine does not directly drive the wheels. Instead, it maintains the charge of the high-voltage battery, which powers the main electric motor. This approach allows the engine to operate in its optimal range, reducing consumption, emissions and noise.

With locations in 17 plants and 5 R&D centers around the world, Horse Powertrain supports OEMs such as Renault, Geely, Volvo, Nissan and Mitsubishi. The Horse C15 compact module is a clear example of how the firm seeks to offer concrete solutions to the technical and regulatory challenges facing the global automotive industry.
