Toyota announces the opening of Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina ( TBMNC ), its first battery factory outside of Japan. The facility will begin shipping batteries for electrified vehicles in North America starting in April.
Toyota’s battery plant and its global impact
With an investment of nearly 14 billion dollars, this is Toyota’s eleventh manufacturing plant in the United States. The factory aims to produce batteries for hybrid electric vehicles ( HEV ), plug-in hybrids ( PHEV ) and battery electric vehicles ( BEV ), which strengthens the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
The plant will create 5,000 direct jobs in North Carolina and contribute to the region’s economic growth. This strategy is aligned with Toyota ‘s ” best of town ” philosophy, which prioritizes local investment and production tailored to market needs.
Toyota has invested $49 billion in the U.S., consolidating its presence in the country and supporting more than 280,000 jobs in the automotive industry. The new battery plant in North Carolina strengthens its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and developing clean technology for its hybrid and electric models.
TBMNC President Sean Suggs said the plant is an important part of Toyota’s electrification strategy, providing efficient, high-performance batteries for a wide range of vehicles.
With this opening, Toyota is advancing its vision of a more sustainable future. Battery production in the United States will allow the company to reduce logistics costs and offer more affordable models for the North American market. The integration of hybrid and electric vehicles strengthens its multi-pronged approach to future mobility.
