Horizon Robotics , a Chinese company specializing in IT solutions for autonomous driving, has made an investment in KargoBot , the self-driving freight transportation division of Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Global .
Both companies have agreed to begin a technical and commercial collaboration focused on high-performance automated driving control units. Likewise, they intend to accelerate commercial applications of KargoBot’s intelligent training system in the field of logistics.
Alliance between Horizon Robotics and KargoBot
This partnership was announced a few days ago and it should be noted that both companies previously collaborated in April, when KargoBot began using Horizon’s Journey series chips. These chips significantly contributed to improving the safety and efficiency of automated driving trucks, especially in challenging road conditions.
Horizon carried out mass production of Journey series chips, incorporating them into vehicles in 2020 and has since supplied four million units . The company has established partnerships with 30 Chinese independent brands and joint ventures, covering more than 150 vehicle models.
On the other hand, KargoBot has been focused on the development and commercial operation of Level 4 autonomous driving technology for freight transportation since February 2021. Its automated hybrid solution means that one driver of a vehicle with Level 2 assisted driving capabilities can guide multiple Level 4 automated truck driving units.
Notably, the company has carried out regular transportation tests using smart vehicles in the northern and northwest regions of China, transporting more than 2.5 million tons of goods annually.
