Halliburton Company achieves an industry first in downhole electrical completion technology with Petrobras in Brazil.

Halliburton Company announced this week the successful installation of the industry’s first deepwater single-trip electro-hydraulic wet connection for Petrobras in Brazil, a significant achievement in downhole electrical completion technology. Halliburton’s Fuzion® EH downhole wet-coupled electro-hydraulic connector helps increase well recovery factors by maintaining the integrity of Halliburton’s SmartWell® completion systems throughout the life of the well.

The Fuzion-EH connector is expected to help facilitate safer and easier intervention operations, as well as prevent potential formation damage from workover operations. Halliburton plans a future version of a dual-travel system Fuzion-EH connector to be qualified and implemented by Petrobras in 2023. This system will provide additional on-premises benefits of the SmartWell system while maintaining the benefits of the single shot system.

“The Fuzion-EH connector is the first step in the all-electric smart termination journey and is a collaborative development product with Petrobras and Shell,” said Mark Dawson, Halliburton vice president of termination technology, Halliburton. “This achievement paves the way for us to provide clients with the autonomous ability to control and manage reservoirs in their wells and assets and meet our Future of Completions®.”

“This major well technology development marks the first multi-zone open-hole completion in a single trip. It was a remarkable example of teamwork, partnership and technical collaboration between the operators and Halliburton in the Brazilian ecosystem. The first application of this technology was enabled using the ANP Levy”, said Olivier Wambersie, General Manager Brazil Technology, Shell.

As the world leader in completions, Halliburton has been a pioneer in the development and implementation of SmartWell system technology for 25 years. To date, Halliburton has installed nearly 1,400 SmartWell systems worldwide and more than 100 in Brazil, providing our global customers with control of more than 3,000 zone intervals.
