Flowcopter was part of the first offshore drone challenge held at the National Experimental Test Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Cochstedt, Germany. This event was sponsored by EnBW, in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
Flowcopter’s participation in the inaugural drone challenge
The objective of the Offshore Drone Challenge (ODC) was to provide a platform for leading drone manufacturers to present their innovations to offshore wind energy operators. offshore wind energy and important figures from government, transport and drone regulation in Germany.
It is important to mention that EnBW highlighted the importance of offshore wind farms for the offshore wind farms in achieving climate objectives, mentioning that they are designed to have a useful life of more than 20 years. However, a considerable challenge is its remote location, far from the coast. To address this problem, EnBW relies on drone technology to optimize the operation and maintenance of these turbines.
Technical Director Dr. Uwe Stein presented the FC100 drone. This has a payload capacity of 100 kg and a range of 100 km, positioning it as a viable and commercially competitive solution for heavy lift in offshore wind energy.

Dr. Stein also noted that offshore wind energy service is just one of the many applications where the FC100 Utility UAV platform demonstrates its potential. Its high payload capacity, long endurance and resistance to wind gusts make it ideal for harsh marine environments, overcoming the limitations of current battery electric systems.
