With a future-forward approach to nuclear site cleanup, it emphasizes the transformative potential of robots across the industry.
Eddyfi Technologies’ robotic crawler technology is a game-changer in the field of nuclear waste management. Unlike conventional methods that often rely on manual labor and pose risks to workers, Eddyfi Technologies’ robot offers a remotely operated solution that promises increased efficiency and safety.
During its journey through the nuclear storage tank, the crawler is outfitted with various tools such as ramps, baskets, and sampling bottles to fulfill its critical mission effectively. In navigating challenging terrain, the vehicle encounters significant obstacles, requiring precise sampling at designated locations. To enhance its capabilities, a new 6-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) manipulator has been introduced. Building upon the success of the original robotic platform’s 4-function manipulator, this advanced arm integrates two additional functions. These include an additional rotating joint, providing the arm with an ‘elbow’ for increased flexibility, and a lateral motion rotating ‘shoulder,’ expanding the arm’s reach and maneuverability around the crawler, enabling it to access a broader range of spaces.
This custom robotic project significantly boosts the functionality of the ICON™ software used for operating the VersaTrax. Through an accessible plugin, users can conveniently manage multiple actuators simultaneously. The addition of this plugin enhances the graphical user interface, offering users enhanced customization and ease of use. By prioritizing intuitive gripper positioning over individual joint manipulation, the plugin transforms control mechanisms. Users can effortlessly adjust the end effector’s position to control movement, while the plugin seamlessly manages intricate details in the background.
