Denmark bets on offshore wind energy in Colombia with CIP backing

This is the first time that Colombia opens an official auction to develop offshore wind energy in its territory.
CIP presenta oferta para energía eólica marina

In a move that consolidates Colombia’s role as a benchmark in the transition to renewable energy transition to renewable energies, CI GMF COÖPERATIEF U.A., a subsidiary of the Danishthe subsidiary of the Danish group Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), CI GMF COÖPERATIEF U.A., submitted a formal bid in the First Colombia Offshore Wind Round.

This process, led by the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), seeks to award the first permits for the development of offshore wind energy projects. offshore wind energy projects projects in the country. The participation of an actor such as CIP, one of the most influential investment funds in energy infrastructure at a global level, represents a strategic endorsement of Colombia’s potential in this emerging segment.

Offshore wind energy and decarbonization in Colombia

The offer presented by CIP not only marks the arrival of European capital, but also introduces technical expertise in offshore projects. This opens up opportunities for technology transfer, productive linkages and local job creation, especially in coastal areas such as the Caribbean region.

Colombia seeks to diversify its energy matrix and advance in its commitment to reduce emissions, in line with international climate objectives. The offshore wind energy is emerging as a clean source with high potential for electricity generation.

International interest and just transition policy

The National Government has reiterated the importance of creating favorable conditions to attract foreign investment that contributes to sustainable development. The entry of CIP reinforces international confidence in the fair energy transition policies promoted by Colombia.

Denmark, recognized for its leadership in clean energy, strengthens its cooperation with Colombia. CIP’s participation could be the first of future bilateral collaborations in renewable technologies.

The ANH and the promotion of new energy frontiers

The ANH has played a key role in structuring the regulatory framework that enables this type of initiative. With this auction, the country opens a new stage towards the exploration of marine energy sources, so far unexplored in the Colombian context.

This effort also reflects a change in the role of regulatory agencies, which are shifting from a vision focused on hydrocarbons to a broader and more integrated energy agenda.

With this first offshore wind roundColombia seeks to lay the foundations for the development of a competitive, safe and environmentally responsible offshore industry.
