Collahuasi’s C20+ project has had a significant impact on the economy of the Tarapacá region. Since its launch in 2022, the construction of the desalination plant has boosted local employment , strengthened port infrastructure, and boosted the region’s logistics chain.

This desalination plant, which has a capacity of 1,050 liters per second, is key to Collahuasi’s mining operations , allowing for optimized water use.

One of the greatest contributions of this project has been job creation. More than 2,500 people from the region were hired in various phases of construction. In addition, training programs have been implemented in technical areas such as welding , electricity, and plumbing, allowing more than 800 workers from Tarapacá to acquire new skills and integrate into the mining labor market.

Impact of the desalination plant on education and employment

Technical training is also a priority for Collahuasi, which has promoted educational programs in high schools in Alto Hospicio and Pica, co-managed by the Collahuasi Foundation. This has allowed young people in the region to access jobs in the mining industry, contributing to the area’s economic and social development.

The project has generated significant investment in the region, reaching more than US$230 million in contracts for local goods and services, which has boosted sectors such as hospitality and transportation.

Collahuasi has demonstrated a strong commitment to the sustainable development of Tarapacá. Through the C20+ Project , it has managed to create a productive chain that not only benefits the company but also strengthens the regional economy, improving the quality of life of the communities near its mining operations.
