AtmosZero bets on decarbonizing factories with electric steam

The AtmosZero electric boiler generates steam at 165 °C with electricity, eliminating direct emissions in key industrial processes.

AtmosZero is redrawing the industrial heat landscape by developing an electric boiler that completely eliminates the need for burning fossil fuels. From its plant in Loveland, Colorado, the startup offers a clean and efficient alternative to gas-fired boilers, which are responsible for a large portion of CO₂ emissions in industry.

AtmosZero’s electric boiler is growing

Your Boiler 2.0 is a modular heat pump capable of generating steam at 165 °C using only electricity. This solution enables factories to significantly reduce their carbon footprint in processes such as sterilization, drying and cooking. By avoiding the gas combustionthe system eliminates direct emissions associated with process heat, which accounts for about 13% of U.S. energy emissions.

Unlike a traditional boiler that converts 100 % of the energy into heat, AtmosZero technology transfers heat from the environment through compression cycles, achieving efficiencies of up to 400 %. This not only reduces energy consumption, but also makes it possible to replace gas without losing productivity. The company estimates that its systems can pay for themselves in less than five years thanks to energy savings.

A firm step towards thermal decarbonization

AtmosZero has already launched a pilot installation at the New Belgium brewery and plans to expand production to more than 100 units per year by 2030. Their modular design allows these boilers to be integrated into factories without shutting down operations or redesigning infrastructure, facilitating the electrification of heat in sectors with high thermal demand.

While other heat pumps achieve higher efficiency by taking advantage of waste heat, they tend to be more expensive to implement. The company opts for a simpler and more affordable model, with a lower COP, but which allows immediate progress toward reducing emissions. emissions reduction in industrial facilities.

A future with less carbon and less gas

The engineering team continues to refine the design to reduce costs and facilitate maintenance. In addition, the company is exploring new uses for its technology in commercial buildings and hotels. With the support of state policies and federal funding, AtmosZero is accelerating the transition to an industry that is less dependent on gas and more committed to climate neutrality.
