The company Sable Offshore has officially resumed oil transport from the Santa Ynez Unit. This action follows a routine process and a direct order issued by the U.S. Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright. The restart of operations in the Santa Ynez Pipeline System allows processed crude to flow from Las Flores Canyon to Pentland Station to ensure a critical supply for the region and the military forces.

The Defense Production Act and Sable Offshore

It is essential to understand that this move is backed by the 1950 Defense Production Act. The federal administration has intervened to prioritize energy transport amid the risk of disruptions caused by California state policies.

Under this regulation, the barrel flow is expected to gradually reach a capacity of 200,000 units per day. The company has confirmed that onshore structural repairs were successfully completed last year and meet U.S. Department of Transportation safety standards.

Likewise, activity on the Harmony platform is showing tangible results, with wells operating as planned. The reactivation schedule states that the Heritage platforms and Hondo will join the production flow in the coming months of March and June, respectively.

With an estimated gross rate of 50,000 barrels per day, the company expects to make its first commercial sales on April 1, 2026. This injection of domestic supply represents a 17% increase for the local market and reduces reliance on foreign resources.

Despite operational progress, the situation still has an active legal front with the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Sable Offshore has taken legal action to affirm its ability to meet federal obligations in the face of state challenges.

Management remains focused on strengthening the country’s defense through energy self-sufficiency. Financial stability is also on the radar, and federal credit-support options are being explored to consolidate this return to large-scale production in federal waters.
