Agility Robotics, an American company specializing in the development of humanoid robots , is about to open the RoboFab factory in Salem, Oregon. This facility covers approximately 6,503 m 2 and has the capacity to manufacture more than 10,000 units of its Digit robot annually . Construction of the factory began last year and it is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
The purpose of this robot is to address problems in the workplace, such as injuries and burnout, and also fill job vacancies that are difficult to fill with human workers . The long-term vision is to allow humans to focus on more creative and less routine tasks.
How does Digital work?
This robot is equipped with a series of cutting-edge sensors and algorithms that allow it to move and carry out tasks autonomously. Its modular design gives it the ability to adapt to various environments and applications .
A highlight of this project lies in the fact that it will be employed in manufacturing more units of itself, which could be described as the “automation of automation.”
Mass production of robots like Digit could have a considerable impact on the economy and society. However, it is essential to take into account the ethical and work implications that this could generate.
