Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have innovative clean electricity generation projects, investing massively in renewables. The figures that the Gulf countries are investing in renewables are gigantic figures, they are betting big on clean energy.

Recently, the Saudi Energy Minister, Abdelaziz bin Salman, stated that Saudi will invest 266,000 million dollars to generate “cleaner energy” in the country.

Saudi Arabia, in addition to being an oil country, aims to be the future hydrogen exporting country, in addition to guaranteeing the use of hydrogen in its renewed industry to produce aluminum, steel, fertilizers and others on a scale; In addition to revolutionizing its transportation system (which, in the transition from fossil fuels to electricity and finally to hydrogen), it will be able to have a cutting-edge country in Arabia. They are building their linear city Neom which will be a green city.

For its part, the emirate of Dubai has its “Dubai 2050 Clean Energy Strategy” along with an elaborate “Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy”. So that in 2050, 100% of the energy production capacity (electricity) will be from clean energy sources (wind, solar, mainly). To date, 14% of Dubai’s electricity generation comes from clean sources, which translates into a generation of 14,517 MW megawatts (from solar generation).

The authorities of the emirate consider “satisfying the demand for water and electricity services in accordance with the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency and quality.” It is a maxim that they have well indicated in any of their investments oriented to the sector by the Dubai Power and Water Authority (DEWA).

In the emirate of Dubai is the gigantic solar park called “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum” (محمد بن راشد المكتوم), in homage to the current Defense Minister, Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This project will have a production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030.

Currently, the solar park is in phase 5 (2023) for 900MW electricity generation, where 600MW were connected to the grid. In addition, upon completion of its commissioning, it will be able to store energy for 24-hour disposal.
