American Petroleum Institute (API) President and CEO Mike Sommers has released a new report outlining the policies needed to make, move and improve American energy and prioritize US oil and natural gas as an asset. long-term strategy during API’s annual State of America’s Energy event.

“The state of American energy is strong and resilient,” Sommers said in his keynote address. “But we need policies to improve the American energy supply chain, not hinder it. America’s Energy State could be made much stronger through bipartisan cooperation, a reversal of Administration rhetoric, and serious policies that encourage investment and enable development.”

During the event, with the presence of the executive vice president and director of defense of API, Amanda Eversole, the president of the Committee of Commerce and Energy of the House of Representatives, Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), and the representatives of EE. USA Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07), and Mary Peltola (AK-AL), API announced a plan for the 118th Congress to make, move and improve America’s energy. As consumers face rising energy costs, API urges policymakers to take a more realistic approach and ensure that US oil and natural gas are prioritized as long-term strategic assets.

The 2023 State of America’s Energy theme, “The Solution Is Here,” and the new report focus on three main components:

Do: Lifting restrictions on power development on federal lands and waters could boost domestic power production and increase investment in the US economy, according to a new Rystad study.

Move: New pipeline infrastructure in the Northeast could add 4.6 bcf a day of natural gas and invest billions locally.

Improve: American energy is produced to the highest environmental standards in the world and is leading the way to a lower carbon future.

“We know that the solution is here. Government policy must reflect our abundance of resources, our ability to build, and our willingness to improve every step of the way,” Sommers concluded. “API and our industry are here for it. Ready to do the job. Ready to spend time, this year, with this administration, with this new Congress, to design and enact bipartisan policies to produce, move and improve American energy.”

API represents all segments of the US oil and natural gas industry, which supports more than 11 million US jobs. API was formed in 1919 as a standards-setting organization and has developed more than 800 standards to improve operational and environmental safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
