A new well in the Sacha Field, operated by Petroecuador in Block 60, has generated a boost to national oil production. This discovery is located in the province of Orellana, a field that registers an initial production of 2,000 barrels per day, a figure that more than doubles the average of other wells in the area.
The Sacha Field and its energetic relevance
With more than five decades of continuous activity, the Sacha field remains one of the pillars of crude oil production in Ecuador. Its crude, with an average of 24.9 degrees API, is valued for its quality. It currently contributes more than 73,000 barrels per day to the national total, consolidating itself as a strategic asset for the country’s energy security.
According to Jairo Bustos, manager of the Sacha Field Asset, the drilling of the new well was carried out with national technology and Ecuadorian labor. This strategy has allowed optimizing resources, reducing costs and reinforcing the State’s operational capacities in the hydrocarbons sector.
Between 2024 and 2025, 28 additional additional 28 wells have been drilled in this block. The implementation of new exploration techniques and the experience of the technical teams have been key to this sustained growth in production.
The increase in production from the Sacha Field contributes directly to the fulfillment of the oil production objectives established by the Government. This progress strengthens Petroecuador’s role as a state operator committed to the efficiency, sustainability and development of the Ecuadorian energy sector.
