Fujifilm develops flexible DDA for industrial inspection

Share

With the flexible DDA panel as the flagship of its innovation, FUJIFILM NDT is expanding its influence in the nondestructive inspection industry. During the ASNT 2025 event, John Flaherty, NDT product manager, presented how this technology, along with CR scanners and digital detectors, is facilitating the company's strategic expansion into the oil and gas sector, complementing its strong presence in aerospace.

Intelligent processing: AI applied to inspection

According to Flaherty, they are developing an AI-based engine that will make inspection tasks easier for operators. This system will have the ability to assist in the detection of defects in castings, welds, or corrosion areas, it will also optimize analysis times and standardize results, which is especially valuable in industries where quality standards are non-negotiable.

Flexible DDA technology: a solution designed for oil & gas

One of the most relevant announcements of the interview was the upcoming market introduction of a flexible DDA panel, a solution that promises to adapt to irregular geometries and complex surfaces. This technology represents an evolution from traditional rigid panels, facilitating faster and more accurate inspections on components such as pipes, elbows or welded structures in the energy sector.

Although there is no definite launch date yet, the Fuji team is actively working on its development, seeking to respond to a clear need in the oil and gas sector, to improve operational efficiency without compromising quality, all at a competitive cost.

Environmental focus and equipment durability

Another aspect that distinguishes the company's technology offering is its commitment to operational sustainability. According to Flaherty, all of its products are designed with environmental friendliness in mind, which is embodied in reusable imaging plates for its CR systems (which significantly reduce waste) and panels with an extended service life.

This development philosophy responds to a corporate responsibility, a growing market demand for durable, efficient solutions with low environmental impact.

A vision that connects critical sectors

Through solutions such as CR scanner, AI-based inspection engine and flexible DDA panel, FUJIFILM NDT is aligning its technology strategy with the needs of the aerospace and energy sectors. John Flaherty made it clear that the goal is not just to sell equipment, but to facilitate an industrial transformation through tools that integrate easily into existing operations.
