The municipality of Hallstavik in Stockholm County has just become a national benchmark for solar energy. solar energy after the inauguration of Sweden’s largest photovoltaic park. Covering 82 hectares, the new site has an installed capacity of 64 MWp and is designed to generate around 63 GWh per year.
Sweden’s largest solar park with certified energy
This ambitious development has been made possible thanks to a partnership between the Axfood food group and Alight, an independent power producer specializing in large-scale solar. The two companies signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for at least (PPA) for at least a decade, through which Axfood commits to purchase 100 % of the electricity generated.
The entire electrical production of the wind farm, called “Ax-el” by Axfood, is certified under the standard Bra Miljövalstandard, which ensures strict sustainability criteria, such as location outside protected areas and management of the recycling of solar panels. recycling of solar panels.
Strategies that leave their mark
Simone Margulies, president of the Axfood Group, emphasized that this development represents a concrete step in the decarbonization of its operations. Currently, the new solar farm will cover around 15% of the company’s annual electricity consumption, which has already migrated to renewable electricity and fossil fuel-free transportation.

For Alight, this project reaffirms its expansion strategy based on PPAs without government subsidies. Warren Campbell, its CEO, emphasized that this new facility produces five times more energy than the first solar farm they built five years ago. The company aims to reach a total installed capacity of 5 GW by 2030.
The development was financed through a green loan from SEB and has network distribution by Vattenfall Eldistribution AB, consolidating a replicable model for future corporate partnerships in the Swedish energy sector.
