ZeroAvia has taken a key step in the electrification of air transport by completing the first sale of its 600 kW electric propulsion system (EPS) to JetCruzer International. This agreement will allow the technology to be integrated into flight tests of the JetCruzer 500E, a six-seat hydrogen- powered aircraft.

ZeroAvia propulsion system details

ZeroAvia’s EPS system is designed to convert clean energy into efficient power. It uses 200 kW bi-directional inverters to transform DC current into AC current, powering a direct drive motor that reaches 2200 rpm. This patented technology has been recognized with FAA G-1 document, representing a step towards its certification.

For its part, JetCruzer International plans for the 500E to enter service in 2028, followed by the development of the 1250E in 2030. The company has redesigned a JetCruzer 500 to serve as a testbed and validate the integration of ZeroAvia’s propulsion system . The original design for this aircraft dates back to the 1990s, when it was conceived as an efficient air solution, although it never made it into production. In 2017, JetCruzer International acquired the intellectual property and has since been working on developing electrified versions.

It is important to note that ZeroAvia has secured over 2,000 pre-orders for its hydrogen propulsion systems for commercial airlines and in 2024 opened a Propulsion Center of Excellence in Everett, Washington. This 136,000 square foot facility will allow it to produce propulsion systems for both its own aircraft and aircraft manufacturers.

Statements on the agreement

Sergey Kiselev, ZeroAvia’s commercial director, stressed the importance of this sale, saying that this first sale of the EPS as an independent unit serves to support a project with a history and a bright future at the same time. Victor Tao, CEO of JetCruzer International, meanwhile, noted that the electrification of the Jet Cruiser 500E represents a major step in reducing carbon emissions.

With this collaboration, ZeroAvia and JetCruzer International accelerate the development of electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft, consolidating a new era for zero-emission aviation.
