In early February, Petrobras completed the first sale of its VLSFO biofuel with a 24% renewable content (B24) in the Asian bunker market. The transaction was carried out in collaboration with Golden Island, an authorized bunker supplier in Singapore. This supply, which will be delivered in February, marks an achievement in the Brazilian company’s decarbonization strategy .
Composition and sustainability of VLSFO B24 biofuel
VLSFO B24 was formulated with a blend of 76% mineral fuel , mostly from Petrobras refineries, and 24% UCOME (used cooking oil), purchased locally in Singapore. This blend complies with rigorous sustainability regulations, backed by ISCC EU certification, which ensures that the biofuel is produced under low environmental impact conditions.
To manufacture this biofuel, Petrobras used the facilities of the Universal Terminal at Jurong Port, where it has a lease for storage tanks. The distribution of the product follows the same operating protocols as traditional bunkering, using smaller vessels to load and deliver the biofuel to consumer ships.
Petrobras’ commitment to the energy transition
Claudio Schlosser, Director of Logistics, Marketing and Markets at Petrobras, highlighted that this sale is in line with the company’s strategy to develop products that promote a low -carbon energy market. The sale of VLSFO with renewable content is an example of Petrobras’ commitment to innovative solutions for the energy transition and the decarbonization of the maritime sector.
This action reinforces Petrobras’ commitment to the development of new energies and sustainable products that allow the company to remain competitive in the global market, while moving towards a more environmentally friendly product offering.
