McDermott, a leading provider of engineering solutions to the energy industry , has been selected by Santos to execute the decommissioning of the Harriet Alpha platform and its associated infrastructure, located off the coast of Western Australia. This EPRD contract, which includes engineering, procurement, removal and disposal (EPRD) , will mark one of the largest decommissioning projects in the company’s history.
McDermott faces a big challenge with the EPRD contract
The decommissioning of the Harriet Alpha platform, part of the Harriet Joint Venture (HJV), is one of the most complex tasks planned to be executed in the region. The company has demonstrated its technical capacity by successfully executing the Campbell platform decommissioning project for Santos in previous years.
Now, with the Harriet Alpha contract , the company faces an even bigger challenge, including the removal of a flaring tower, an exploration well and a subsea development system consisting of two model subsea wells.
Commitment to Sustainability and the Circular Economy
Through this contract, the company is committed to delivering high-quality engineering solutions and doing so in an environmentally responsible manner. According to Mahesh Swaminathan, Senior Vice President of Subsea and Floating Facilities at McDermott, the company is continuing its commitment to deliver safe and efficient decommissioning , ensuring that waste is managed sustainably.
Our focus on the circular economy and reducing carbon emissions is stronger than ever.
Swaminathan commented.
The decommissioning of the platform will be led by McDermott’s team in Perth, Australia, with support from key resources in Batam, Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With McDermott’s global presence and locally integrated infrastructure, the company is uniquely positioned to manage projects of this magnitude , ensuring both operational efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations.
