SAGA Metals Corp., a mining company focused on the exploration of minerals critical to the energy transition, has excitedly announced the start of its drilling program at the Double Mer uranium project . This project, located in central-eastern Labrador, Canada, is considered one of the company’s most promising assets, spanning a total of 25,600 hectares.

The potential of Double Mer

The Double Mer uranium project extends over 18 kilometres , where clear signals of uranium mineralization have been identified through geophysical and surface sampling. During the 2024 field season, the SAGA team validated several key data points that reinforced confidence in the potential of this deposit, especially in the Luivik area, an area with geological characteristics that could host large tonnage deposits.

We are excited to commence drilling at Double Mer, particularly in the Luivik zone, which shows anomalous uranium geochemistry and clear signs of mineral alteration, indicating significant potential for the project.

The Luivik zone: Primary target of the drilling program

The Luivik area has emerged as the Company’s primary target for initial drilling. Located close to the main camp, this area offers easy access and favourable logistical conditions for drilling, with suitable trails for equipment in the winter months. In addition, uranium radiometry readings have been very encouraging, with concentrations reaching up to 3,692 ppm U3O8 , underlining the possibility of large reserves in the area.

The drilling program will focus on a 1,500-2,500 metre extension within this zone , with the aim of confirming uranium concentrations and delineating the first mineral resource boundaries. According to Garagan, “ The Luivik zone has demonstrated the type of mineralization we are looking for and we believe it could offer high returns over the long term .”

A promising future for uranium in Labrador

SAGA Metals continues to position itself as a key player in the critical minerals sector, with notable projects in the Labrador mining region. The company is focused on uranium, but also owns other important assets, such as the Legacy Lithium project in Quebec, developed in collaboration with Rio Tinto.

With Double Mer , SAGA joins other major mining players in the region, such as Paladin Energy and Atha Energy, who also operate in Labrador’s Central Mineral Belt (CMB). The company is in a prime position to take advantage of the growing global interest in uranium resources, essential for clean energy production .
