REGENT Craft, a leading manufacturer of electric marine gliders , has confirmed that United Marine Egypt (UME) Shipping will be the first customer to take delivery of the Seaglider Monarch , which can accommodate 50 to 100 passengers. This innovative electric vehicle is scheduled for delivery before the end of the decade and will join UME’s maritime network in the Red Sea. This announcement underlines the partnership between the two companies, which seek to offer fast, zero-emission and sustainability-focused transportation solutions.

Capable of traveling at speeds of up to 225 km/h and covering 650 km on a single charge, the Seaglider Monarch combines ground effect to take advantage of aerodynamics near water. With the ability to carry up to 22,000 pounds of cargo or 100 passengers , this vehicle represents an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to other coastal modes of transportation. The Viceroy version, also ordered by UME, has a capacity for 12 passengers, reflecting the growing adoption of green technologies for smaller-scale transportation in Egypt.

UME bets on the Seaglider Monarch

To ensure safety and compliance with international standards, REGENT works closely with Lloyd’s Register , a leader in marine classification services with over 260 years of experience. Joep Bollerman, Vice President of Lloyd’s Register, highlighted that his team “ is committed to establishing international certification standards for zero-emission transport innovations such as Monarch, which will help the industry achieve carbon neutrality .”

This new step reflects UME’s commitment to maritime transport innovation and sustainability. “ UME is proud to partner with REGENT as the first customer of Monarch gliders ,” said Captain Mohamed Badawy, President of UME. The initiative, by connecting various coastal destinations in the Red Sea, marks a step towards a future where efficiency and sustainability in maritime transport are the norm.
