The U.S. Coast Guard(USCG) has released new images of the Titan submarine and wreckage, operated by OceanGate, which imploded during its dive into the Titanic wreckage in June 2023.

The audiovisual material, presented during the hearings of the Marine Board of Investigation (MBI), shows the wreckage of the submarine on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean and was recorded by a remotely operated machine on June 22, 2023.

The images reveal key fragments such as the submersible’s tail cone and pieces of carbon fiber scattered on the ocean floor, allowing investigators to determine that the craft suffered a catastrophic implosion. This conclusion was to confirm the death of the five passengers aboard the submarine.
During the hearing, USCG officials emphasized that human remains were recovered from the wreck site and that DNA was used to identify the victims. The Marine Board of Inquiry is conducting an investigation to determine the causes of the accident and provide recommendations to the Coast Guard Commandant regarding safety on future expeditions.
The video and images released are part of the USCG’ s effort to ensure transparency and provide the public with clear context about the tragic incident. The upcoming hearings are scheduled to continue through Sept. 27, and can be followed live on the U.S. Coast Guard’s YouTube channel.
