The Dogger Bank wind farm is in the process of being built to be “the largest in the world”. However, it experienced an incident on the morning of Thursday, August 22, when one of the Haliade-X turbines, manufactured by GE Vernova, suffered a blade failure during commissioning.

This incident, the second of its kind at Dogger Bank involving this turbine model, has led to the restriction of the surrounding marine area as a safety precaution. No injuries were reported in the vicinity during the failure.

The affected turbine is part of the Dogger Bank A phase, currently under construction. The turbine’s manufacturer, GE Vernova, has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. GE Vernova’s official media and relations communicator, Tim Brown, confirmed the incident and noted that the Wind Fleet Performance Management team is already implementing investigation protocols in coordination with Dogger Bank.

The Dogger Bank wind farmwind farm, located off the coast of England, is a flagship project in the renewable energy sector and is expected to be the largest in the world once completed. The Dogger Bank A phase, where the incident occurred, is one of three phases of the project, which will use 190 Haliade-X turbines to generate clean wind power and contribute to the decarbonization of the UK.

GE Vernova and the Dogger Bank wind farm managers are working closely together to investigate the failure and ensure that it does not recur in the future. In the meantime, operations in the affected area have been temporarily restricted until the investigation is completed and corrective action is taken.
