DP World Callao handles three New Panamax vessels at the same time

It is the only terminal in Peru and on the West Coast of South America that can simultaneously receive and serve three New Panamax vessels.

The port company DP World Callao broke a record by simultaneously handling three New Panamax vessels, a feat that consolidates the port as a leader on the West Coast of South America. The vessels, belonging to the companies CMA CGMWan Hai Lines and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), represent the best in capacity and efficiency in global shipping.

The operation was carried out thanks to the recent inauguration of the Bicentennial Pier, an expansion that has transformed the Muelle Sur terminal of the Port of Callao. With this expansion, DP World has increased its container throughput capacity from 1.5 million to 2.7 million TEUs annually and is positioned as the only terminal in Peru authorized to receive the world’s largest vessels. This achievement underscores DP World’s commitment to connect Peruvian foreign trade with global markets in an efficient and reliable manner.

Innovation and operating records

DP World Callao’s South Pier had already set a Peruvian and South American West Coast record for annual 20-foot container throughput in 2023. However, this recent achievement of handling three vessels simultaneously marks a new chapter in the country’s port history, reaffirming the terminal’s capacity to handle highly complex and high volume operations.
