From Houston, Texas during the ASNT 2023 annual conferenceRichard Blaser from Inspenet had the pleasure of interviewing Gerald Dasbach and Terry Plasek of Har-Bach, a company distinguished by its advanced leak detection technology and exciting history in radiography.
Innovations in Leak Detection
Gerald, Director at Har-Bach, introduced us to their specialty in leak detection. In a niche where they are unique at the conference, they stand out for their efficient solution for leak testing in diverse environments, from ships and tanks to submarines and aircraft carriers. Their method, using a vacuum box and a soapy substance to detect bubbles, is simple but extremely effective.
Contributions to Global Sustainability
Har-Bach has recently collaborated in Airbus’ ZEROe program, contributing to the testing of liquid hydrogen fuel cells for zero-carbon aircraft. This is a testament to its commitment to sustainable technologies and carbon footprint reduction.
Weld Fitting and Automation Tools
The conversation also focused on other facets of the company, such as weld automation and fitting tools, a significant contribution to efficiency and economy in building submarines and ships for the government.
A Glimpse into the Past with Radiography
In addition to current innovations, Har-Bach brought an element of history to ASNT: a 1929 X-ray machine. Terry, an expert in Radiographic Testing, guided us through the history of this fascinating restored piece once used in medical practice. This artifact not only captured attention for its uniqueness, but also provided insight into how X-ray technology has evolved since its inception.
