In a significant step for the development of the El Dabaa El Dabaa nuclear power plant in EgyptRosatom’s AEM-Special Steels division has completed and shipped a major set of blanks for Unit 1 equipment. These parts, totaling more than 650 tons, have been distributed to industrial centers in Volgodonsk, Petrozavodsk and St. Petersburg, where they will be used in the manufacture of the plant’s primary cooling circuit.

Rosatom meets deadlines and guarantees safety

To date, 75% of the production of these essential metallurgical parts for Unit 1 has been achieved. This shipment is on schedule for the project and reaffirms the commitment and reliability of the Russian state corporation as an outstanding international partner.

The creation of metallurgical products designed to operate under demanding conditions is a crucial phase in the production cycle of nuclear equipment. AEM-Special Steels handles all vital operations at this stage, including steelmaking, forging, pressing, heat treatment and machining.

In addition, an exhaustive control is carried out at multiple levels to ensure that the properties of the metal meet the necessary standards, thus guaranteeing the reliability and safety of the equipment manufactured.

Pipe production for El Dabaa nuclear power plant

In parallel, at the Petrozavodskmash plant, also part of Rosatom’s mechanical engineering division, production of piping for the Unit 1 reactor has begun. This process includes the manufacture of seamless coated pipes, a technology that this plant was the first in Russia to master, highlighting its pioneering role in the industry. The total weight of these tubes reaches 276 tons.

It is anticipated that the fabrication of all the blanks required for the construction of the El Dabaa power plant will be completed before the end of 2024, marking another major achievement in this ambitious project.
