Idaho Copper Corporation has begun the implementation of the unit for scanning drill core with precision and detail called “TruScan”, provided by technology from Veracio, a Boart Longyear company.
Technologies for scanning drill cores
This tool will be used to meticulously digitize and analyze more than 60,000 feet of stored drill core from the CuMo project. The study will focus on these cores accumulated in the last two decades, which will be scanned to evaluate the qualities of the metals and other components they contain.
The TruScan unit is equipped with XRF (X-ray fluorescence) technology and specialized software capable of performing precise analysis. In addition, this system allows the exploration of cores at intervals of up to 1.5 cm , achieving an exact measurement of the copper and molybdenum contents.
XRF technology , known for its non-destructive capability , determines the characteristics of elements present in samples by identifying the unique X-ray patterns each emits.
The importance of studies and classification of minerals
The company hopes to use the results obtained from the scan to validate and complement previous laboratory analyses, offering a direct comparison with studies conducted. This data will be instrumental in updating the project’s Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) and will help select specific samples for more detailed metallurgical studies.
The main goal is to optimize mineral sorting processes , which could reduce the size of the required grinding facilities, decreasing capital costs and increasing project profitability.
