During the AMPP 2024 event, Guided Ultrasonics (GUL) seized the opportunity to present its latest technological developments, which aim to transform the inspection and monitoring of critical infrastructure in the energy industry. As one of the global leaders in the development of pipeline inspection technologies, GUL has continued to evolve its solutions with approaches such as machine learning-assisted inspections to improve efficiency and automated corrosion monitoring to ensure operational safety and efficiency.

At the event, we spoke with David Alleyne, CEO of Guided Ultrasonics, and other key members of the company such as Rhett O’Briant, Vice President of Technical Sales and Support, Toby Anderson, Vice President of Sales for GUL Americas, and Patricia Salas Gómez, Business Support Engineer, who shared the latest updates on the company’s growth and innovations.

Transforming industrial inspections with the power of machine learning

A standout topic during the interview was the advancement of the inspection assistance program, which uses machine learning to improve field technicians results. Programs like this will help technicians and engineers in industrial inspections, enhancing efficiency, precision, and reliability of results, rather than relying solely on the technician’s experience, thus facilitating analysis during the inspection process.

We’re just continuing to work on our inspection assistant program, where we’re using machine learning to aid our technicians that are out there performing these inspections and getting better results with the technology.

Automated corrosion monitoring: A step toward the future of industrial safety

Another central point of the conversation was GUL’s work on automated corrosion monitoring. This technology uses sensors and automated systems to detect, measure, and analyze corrosion in industrial equipment and infrastructure continuously and in real-time, without the need for constant manual intervention, allowing companies to maintain constant control over the state of pipes and equipment without the need for manual intervention.

We’re continuing to innovate and work around our automated corrosion monitoring and really just trying to educate the world on what we’re doing in that area, in that space.

The integration of these technologies with the Guided Wave Testing (GWT) method has been key for GUL, which, since its founding in 1999, has worked to establish a new standard in critical infrastructure inspection. This approach not only reduces costs and increases efficiency but also represents a safer and more accessible solution for inspectors and asset owners worldwide.

Guided Ultrasonics: Leading the way with innovation and excellence

Patricia Salas Gómez, as a leader in the business support area, also emphasized the importance of teamwork and commitment to excellence within GUL. In a sector like energy, where safety and efficiency are essential, Guided Ultrasonics has positioned itself as a reference in technological innovation.

AMPP provides us with a good forum to not only meet people, but expand the brand, like Brett was saying, showcase not only the stuff that we’ve worked on historically, but the things where we continue to evolve and to continue to develop, such as monitoring and discussing how that helps our clients.

Toby Anderson
