Iberdrola has started work on an innovative wind farm in the south of Tenerife, known as Finca San Juan, located in Arico. This project, with a capacity of 17.3 MW, is intended to generate enough renewable energy to supply approximately 16,000 homes, equivalent to the population of La Orotava.

In addition, it is estimated that the operation of the wind farm will generate 56 GWh per year, contributing to the reduction of 28,000 tons of CO2 emissions. CO2 emissions. This is equivalent to saving 15.6 million liters of diesel, demonstrating Iberdrola’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy production.

On the other hand, the Finca San Juan project is a step towards the energy autonomy of the archipelago, offering a green and local energy source that does not depend on third parties. During its construction phase, 35 people are expected to be hired directly, half of whom will be local residents.

Miguel Serrano, head of Iberdrola Renovables in the Canary Islands, highlighted the importance of this wind farm as a significant step forward for the decarbonization of the Canary Islands’ economy and its socioeconomic development. This project is aligned with the global objectives of emissions reduction and energy autonomy.

In addition, the project includes a series of environmental and heritage measures integrated into Iberdrola’s Convive Program. These measures range from the marking and fencing of heritage elements to the eradication and control of invasive exotic species.

Iberdrola has also implemented similar initiatives in Tenerife, such as the Chimiche wind farm and the Llanos Pelos III photovoltaic plant in Fuerteventura, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and clean energy in the Canary Islands.
