Amazon launched its own AI chatbot called “Q” aimed specifically at businesses, marking its entry into the competitive field of generative AI for the corporate sphere, about a year after the global success of ChatGPT.

Amazon Q: the new artificial intelligence chatbot

“Q” will be available exclusively to customers of Amazon’s AWS cloud computing platform and will compete directly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Copilot, the latter also based on OpenAI technology.

Costing $20 per month per user , Amazon Q is designed to perform various tasks, such as summarizing documents and answering questions about specific data stored on a company’s servers. Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, presented “Q” as a safer version of artificial intelligence chatbots, with more rigorous control over access to content, seeking to address concerns about incorrect or inappropriate responses, known as hallucinations, that have affected the perception of technology in the business environment.

If a user does not have permission to access certain data without Amazon Q, they will not be able to do so with Amazon Q either ,” Jassy explained in a post on X.

For his part, AWS CEO Andrew Selipsky emphasized that cloud customers using Q have the option to restrict their chatbots to a specific and limited data source based on their needs. During the presentation of the company’s latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence, Selipsky hinted at Microsoft, its main competitor.

He emphasized that for AI tasks, Microsoft, AWS’s main rival, depends on OpenAI, the company that recently experienced boardroom turmoil, with the firing and subsequent rehiring of Sam Altman in a period of five days. Selipsky noted that these events underscore the importance of companies relying on a variety of AI vendors.
