During the SLOM 2025 event held in Panama, representatives of Trelleborg Oil & Marine shared details on technical advances, success stories and the sustainability strategy that is positioning the company as a benchmark in the oil-maritime industry in the region. During the meeting, Jonathan Petit (General Manager), Victor Eiras (Sales Manager for the Americas) and Fernando Pan (Project Manager) offered a comprehensive look at the solutions that are transforming the operations of terminals and docks in the region.

Technical innovation in hoses for terminals

The technology developed by the company at its plant in Clermont-Ferrand, France, has enabled the design and manufacture of nipple-less hoses, a unique proposition in the market. This design offers significant operational advantages: lower weight, greater flexibility and ease of handling during loading and unloading operations.

Unlike traditional models that use fixed metal connectors, Trelleborg's nipple-less design reduces stiffness points, which improves hose maneuverability and reduces the risk of structural damage in demanding conditions.

Success story in Chile

During the interview, Fernando Pan highlighted a recent case at the Valero terminal in Chile, where traditional hoses had a recurring problem of "kinking" (excessive kinking). After trying various solutions without success, Trelleborg's double-shell hoses, designed with flexible steel cords combined with reinforcement rings, were implemented.

"Thanks to our technology, the problem was solved immediately. The hoses stopped kinking and the customer is very satisfied with the performance."

Pan commented.

Operational safety at docks and terminals

Victor Eiras explained that one of the main advantages of the Trelleborg design is the reduction of operational risk. The lighter weight of the hoses makes them easier to handle, reducing the physical effort required by personnel and, therefore, the probability of occupational accidents.

Flexibility also allows for better adaptation to the conditions of the maritime environment, avoiding unnecessary stresses and twisting. This feature is key in jetties and storage areas where the constant movement of fluids and equipment requires materials with high mechanical tolerance.

Sustainability and circular economy

"Our hoses are mostly composed of natural rubber, a renewable material that significantly reduces the carbon footprint. In addition, we actively work to eliminate polluting components in rubber formulations," explained Petit. The company also reuses hoses for other industrial uses at the end of their useful life, and develops industrial recycling schemes to reduce waste.

These measures are part of an overall strategy of the Trelleborg Group, which has managed to reduce its CO2 emissions well above the targets set. This vision aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals reinforces its positioning as a responsible supplier in the energy sector.

Latin America in the spotlight

Participation in SLOM 2025 represents a strategic move for Trelleborg Oil & Marine; it seeks to consolidate its presence in Latin America, an expanding market where the demand for safe and sustainable solutions continues to grow.

"Events such as SLOM are vital because they allow us to dialogue directly with the industry's leading companies and better understand their operational needs," said Petit. The objective is not only to market products, but to collaborate in improving safety and efficiency practices at oil terminals throughout the region.

Victor Eiras, as regional manager, pointed out that he and the other team members are available to provide technical advice and support to interested operators; contact can be made directly through the site trelleborg.com.
