With over five decades in the industry, Tank Builders, Inc. has established a tank construction process that starts, literally, from the ground up. Assembly begins with the first bottom ring, which establishes the structural base of the tank, and from there, each section is assembled vertically until it reaches the roof and floating roof system, if applicable. This type of infrastructure, commonly used to store crude oil or other industrial liquids, can require 16 to 18 weeks of work, especially in capacities such as 100,000 barrels, an industry standard.
According to Kyle Kromer, Vice President of the company, unlike other industries, the pace of execution here is closely linked to the size and conditions of the site. This working model has been perfected by the company over its more than 50 years of experience, combining tradition and technology at every stage of assembly.
The importance of the right material for the climate
The construction of industrial tanks requires key technical decisions based on the environment. In southern areas of the United States, the choice commonly falls on A36 steel, a strong and efficient material for hot climates. However, when working in colder regions, the firm uses SA-516 Grade 70 steel, which offers greater performance in low temperatures and structural demands.
This adaptability to the environment not only extends the service life of the tanks, but also ensures safe and continuous operation, especially in critical storage facilities for sectors such as water, oil and chemicals.

Equipment certification: a technical guarantee
A key aspect in tank construction is the quality of the workmanship, which is why at Tank Builders, each welder must have specific certifications for the different welding processes applied in the project. This guarantees that the joints are resistant, watertight and comply with standards such as API 650, API 620, API 653 and AWWA D100.
The company not only trains its teams constantly, but also works under strict industrial safety protocols, with a clear human focus: that every worker goes home at the end of the day. This culture has been reinforced by the new management generation, who continue the technical and human legacy of their father, Bruce Kromer.
Precision, materials and human talent
Tank Builders’ experience in tank construction is based on a combination of proven techniques, carefully selected materials and a certified technical team that understands the demands of the industry. Each tank erected represents more than a metallic structure, it is the result of strategic decisions based on knowledge, climate and safety.
