The SLOM 2024 Conference, organized by the Latin American Society of Maritime Terminal and Monobuoys Operators, successfully concluded on day 2 of activities, consolidating its position as the leading event in the maritime sector. The day was packed with presentations, workshops and discussions on the latest developments and challenges in the industry.

The day began with the intervention of Fernando Díaz Horamar, who addressed energy efficiency and emissions management, highlighting its impact on the ship-terminal interface. Subsequently, Juan Miguel Pachón, from CENIT, presented an alternative system for the replacement of monobuoys in Pozos Colorados, marking a significant step in the optimization of operations.

Fred Boufennane of GALL THOMSON discussed marine docking systems designed to prevent pollution in challenging offshore environments. The morning included a tour of the business exhibit and a coffee break courtesy of TRANSPETRO.

The workshop moderated by José Perdomo of SLOM focused on new technologies for alternative fuels. Featured speakers included Roy Caussy of DUNLOP, who discussed developments in hoses for the new energy market; Juan Carlos Guarin of SOFEC, who presented innovative applications of monobuoys in clean energy; and Dale Hastings-Payne of ORWELL Offshore, who explored transitional technologies and their impact on CALM buoys.

Rafael Martins Barragan of TRANSPETRO provided details on the implementation of a mooring system at the São Francisco maritime terminal. In the afternoon, Nicolás Spinelli of ANCAP discussed infrastructure synergies and business opportunities in Uruguay, while Dominic McKnight Hardy of MIS Marine outlined how collaborative technology can reduce greenhouse gas emissions in ports and terminals.

The afternoon workshop, moderated by Jorge Durán of the OAS Inter-American Committee on Ports, focused on the environmental initiatives of SLOM members. Alex Bustamante of OCENSA presented solar energy management in maritime terminals in Colombia; Diego Rodriguez of OCP Ecuador addressed the certification of maritime terminals as green points; and Diana Bayona of ODC discussed the decarbonization route for oil pipelines in Colombia.

Day 2 of the day concluded with a coffee break offered by TRANSPETRO and the last presentations. Egbert Wibbelink of Offspring International highlighted the importance of the OCIMF guidelines on friction chains in SPM, while Walter Garibotto of YPF closed the day with a presentation on interfacing as a process and the quest for efficiency. SLOM 2024 continues to prove to be a crucial meeting point for industry professionals, offering valuable opportunities for collaboration and advancement in marine and monobuoys practices.
