During the PANNDT 2025 Gala Night in Niagara Falls, Laura Obrutsky, NDT Specialist and former president of CINDE (Canadian Institute for Nondestructive Evaluation), shared her vision on the transformations the non-destructive testing (NDT) industry is going through. Although she left the position two years ago, Obrutsky maintains a strong link to the event she helped build since its inception in 2019. His presence reflects not only an institutional commitment, but also an experienced look at the current challenges and advances in the sector.

The impact of AI on nondestructive testing

One of the central topics addressed by Obrutsky was the growing incorporation of artificial intelligence in the NDT field. In his words, this technology is beginning to be used to improve the interpretation of results, thus optimizing the reliability of inspections without replacing human expertise.

We still need humans. We still need humans to create and accumulate the data needed for AI.

Obrutsky made it clear that the balance between automation and human supervision is crucial for the responsible development of the sector.

An expanding industry with high demand

Beyond technological advances, Obrutsky emphasized that the nondestructive inspection sector continues to be a fertile field for employment where there is never a shortage of work, highlighting the constant need for trained personnel and new equipment. This sustained growth reinforces the role of institutions such as CINDE, which act as a platform for training, professional development and technological integration across Canada.

PANNDT 2025: a key space for exchange

With more than a hundred exhibitors and an enthusiastic attendance, PANNDT 2025 was not only a technical meeting point, but also a space for business development. Obrutsky praised both the organization and the choice of Niagara Falls as the venue for the event, highlighting the beautiful surroundings and hospitality as elements that favor networking between professionals and companies.

He also highlighted the efforts of CINDE staff in planning the event, which was initiated years ago and reactivated after the pandemic.

Looking to the future: Argentina as the next global headquarters

In the final part of the interview, Obrutsky addressed a message of support to Allende’s Argentine team, in charge of organizing the 2028 World Conference, expressing full confidence in their experience and ability to carry out an event of global scope.

They are very good at what they do, they will be great, they have done other things and have a lot of experience. So far, they are doing an excellent job promoting the event.
