Orwell Offshore plans expansion of operations in Latin America
During his participation in the SLOM 2025 event in Panama, James Durante, Regional Project Manager at Orwell Offshore, shared the company's strategic vision for expanding its operations in Latin America. During the conversation, he addressed the region's technical and geopolitical challenges, as well as the most valuable services for clients in the energy sector.
From its stand at the event, James made it clear that the British company sees the Latin American market as an important territory for the development of offshore infrastructure, especially for maritime terminals and mooring systems.
Obstacles in emerging markets
During the interview, James Durante was direct in pointing out the main challenges facing the company in the region, among which he highlighted geopolitical instability and regulatory differences, factors that represent significant challenges and require constant risk assessment.
"The industry in Latin America continues to advance, but the context cannot be ignored. We have developed internal policies that allow us to assess and respond to different scenarios. This gives us the flexibility to support our clients in their needs."
he explained.
In addition to political factors, the technical environment also represents a barrier. Some countries still lack developed infrastructure for complex offshore operations, requiring companies like Orwell Offshore to assume a more advisory role from the early stages of the project.
A firm commitment to Latin America
Despite the challenges, Orwell Offshore sees Latin America as a region with tangible opportunities. According to James, the market is waking up, and what's happening in countries like Argentina, Uruguay, and Colombia is just the beginning.
In Argentina, the advancement of offshore gas is opening up new possibilities; Uruguay is beginning to emerge as a strategic hub; and Colombia is consolidating its interest in exploring new energy alternatives. Orwell aims to position itself as a technical ally in this evolution.
“The region is experiencing a resurgence with immense offshore opportunities. In the next five years, gas development will be key, and we want to be there. It's vital for us to have a local presence and knowledge.”
said James Durante.
The value of the EPC model and specialized consulting
When asked about the services that generate the most value for clients, James was clear in pointing out that naval infrastructure consulting and the EPC model have been decisive in the company's global expansion, as they constitute the pillars of Orwell's growth, allowing it to enter strongly in Asia, Africa and, more recently, replicate that model in South America. This approach also accompanies clients from the conceptual phase, through detailed engineering, to manufacturing and final installation, while giving them the ability to foresee risks, optimize resources and meet the schedules demanded by the energy industry.

Safety and efficiency in maritime terminals
One of the core themes of SLOM 2025 was operational safety and human factor protection, two pillars with which Orwell Offshore fully identifies. According to James, these principles are integrated from the initial engineering to the final operation of each infrastructure.
In maritime terminals, this translates into safer systems, less exposure to extreme conditions, and rigorous maintenance planning. The approach combines automation with technical expertise, always seeking a balance between efficiency and protection.
Strategic vision and next stage
With a consolidated technical structure and a firm commitment to the region, Orwell Offshore seeks to become a relevant player in Latin American offshore projects in the coming years. To this end, the regional team, led by James Durante, is already working to establish relationships with authorities, strategic clients, and technical partners in each target country. The company also recognizes that local knowledge will be essential for moving forward, so its strategy includes regulatory adaptation, integration with local contractors, and knowledge transfer.
