From Houston, Texas during the ASNT 2023 annual conferenceRichard Blaser from Inspenet had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew Brewis, Sales Manager at PHOENIX Inspection Systems Limited, a leader in ultrasonic inspection technologies.

Origins and Global Presence

PHOENIX Inspection has its roots near Manchester, UK, and is dedicated to the design and manufacture of ultrasonic scanners for the NDT industry. They are part of the NOVA Instruments conglomerate, which brings together companies such as Technology Design, NDT Systems and Dantech. These companies offer a variety of solutions and technologies that complement the PHOENIX inspection value proposition.

The Future of Inspection: Orbital Scanner

Andrew enthusiastically presented a prototype of his new orbital scanner, designed for pipeline inspections. Its main function is to inspect welds for defects by moving 360 degrees around the pipe. With Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with tablets and phones, this device promises to revolutionize the way inspectors work, offering portability, efficiency and accuracy.

Global Launch on the Horizon

Although the orbital scanner is still in the prototyping and refinement phase, it is expected to be available for the global market next year. PHOENIX inspection is looking to get feedback and improve the product before its official launch.
