From Houston, Texas during the ASNT 2023 annual conference, Richard Blaser from Inspenet had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew Acocella, technical sales representative at Evident Scientific, Inc. to find out how the well-known Olympus has evolved following its acquisition by Bain Capital and what this change means for the industry.

Reinvention in the World of NDT: From Olympus to Evident

Evident Scientific, formerly known as Olympus, has taken a refreshing turn in its image and approach. “We have the same people, the same product and, if anything, a little better,” Andrew said. With the recent acquisition by Bain Capital, they have decided to focus entirely on the industrial sector, distancing themselves from Olympus’ medical roots and strengthening their presence in non-destructive inspection (NDT) and industrial areas.

The Vanguard of NDT Technology: The VANTA XRF Analyzer

They introduce to the market their VANTA XRF, an essential tool for geochemistry and elemental composition analysis. “It gives you elemental concentrations and accurate results in as little as one second,” Andrew explained as he demonstrated the device’s capability with samples of different metals. VANTA comes as an evolution of previous models, cementing itself as one of the best devices on the market for the scrap metal industry and environmental investigations.

IPLEX NX: The Precision in Remote Visual Inspection

In addition, Andrew introduced us to the IPLEX NX, Evident’s stellar RVI (Remote Visual Inspection) equipment. “It’s probably the best scope we have for engine inspection,” he proudly commented, noting its recent contract with the Air Force. The IPLEX NX’s ability to accurately inspect and measure defects has been key to maintaining military standards.

An Evident Future

With the transition still in process, Andrew anticipated that the brand and name will continue to be updated to fully reflect the company’s new direction. “Evident will be fully in place by the end of this year or next,” he confirmed.

Evident Scientific, Inc. promises to continue to be a prominent player in the NDT world, offering innovation and precision under a new banner. The company’s commitment to quality and service remains evident, marking a new chapter in the history of a legacy brand.
