Speaking at the NISTM conference, VEGA Americas Senior Technical Engineer Chris Lewis explained how the company has consolidated its leadership in radar level measurement solutions. According to Lewis, VEGA instruments can measure levels within a tank to an accuracy of ±1 millimeter, which is critical for industries where accuracy is critical, such as petrochemical, food and energy.
This capability is based on radar technology that allows level detection of various liquids, including hydrocarbons, without direct contact and without being affected by ambient pressure or temperature. This represents a reliable and low-maintenance solution for demanding industrial applications.
Instrumentation designed for hazardous areas
Another pillar of VEGA’s approach is its focus on operational safety, as all its equipment has certifications that make it suitable for operating in explosive or electrically hazardous environments. Lewis explained that its products comply with Class I, Div I, Groups A, B and C standards, in addition to international certifications such as ATEX for zones 0 and 1.
This means that its sensors are able to operate safely in confined spaces, areas with flammable gases or complex chemical installations. The robustness of these instruments has positioned VEGA as a benchmark for customers who prioritize operational safety without compromising accuracy.

Industrial cybersecurity at the highest level
In a context where digitalization is advancing rapidly in the industry, VEGA has taken a step forward by being the first company in the sector to comply with an IEEE Internet security standard for measuring instruments. This means that its devices incorporate protection mechanisms to protect against unauthorized access, reducing the risk of cyberattacks and maintaining the integrity of industrial data.
This advance is especially relevant for customers integrating VEGA sensors into SCADA systems or IoT platforms, where connectivity must go hand in hand with IT security.
Global presence with local attention
Headquartered in Schiltach, Germany, with more than 2,600 employees worldwide, VEGA maintains operations in more than 80 countries. Its U.S. subsidiary, VEGA Americas, continues to strengthen customer relationships in North America, combining specialized technical support with products designed to meet local and international standards.
For those looking for radar measurement solutions that combine accuracy, safety and technical support, VEGA’s proposal is a high value-added alternative.
