In a twenty-second video, Fourier Intelligence, the Chinese robotics company, unveiled its latest creation: the GR-2 humanoid. Although the audiovisual showed very little of this new robot and left many wanting to see more, it promises to be a significant leap compared to its predecessor, the GR-1, which was unveiled in mid-2023 and designed primarily to assist elderly people with mobility and daily care tasks.

The GR-1 is already known to be a valuable tool, capable of performing tasks such as moving patients between beds and wheelchairs, lifting objects and performing complex movements with its limbs. These capabilities have been further enhanced in the GR-2, which includes more dexterous hands, the possibility of teleoperation via virtual reality, and advanced locomotion analysis. These improvements translate into a robot more versatile and adaptable to different environments and needs.

Fourier Intelligence is no stranger to the application of robotics in the medical field, as its range of products, under the brand name of RehabHubbrand, has provided high-tech rehabilitation solutions to patients around the world. In this context, the GR-2 is positioned as an extension of this line, with the potential to revolutionize robotic-assisted care and therapy.

Highlights of Fourier’s new robot

One of the most outstanding advances in the GR-2 is its camera-based pure vision system, which allows a more accurate and complete perception of its surroundings. Equipped with six RGB camerascameras, the robot can capture a 360-degree view, generating aerial view images (BEV) for real-time object identification and tracking. This capability is crucial for safe and efficient navigation in complex environments, both indoors and outdoors.

In addition, Fourier Intelligence has integrated transformer models and occupancy networks that allow the GR-2 to translate its environment into three-dimensional information, facilitating the identification of obstacles and the planning of safe movement routes.
