Woodside reports progress on Trion’s offshore infrastructure

Trion reaches 35% progress in 2025, with key infrastructure under construction and contracts awarded for oil production in 2028.

Australian operator Woodside has taken firm steps in the development of the Trion oil field, located in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Gulf of Mexico. Progress in the Trion oil field

During the first six months of 2025, the development of the floating production unit (FPU) recorded key technical milestones. Detailed design was completed, hull blocks were moved to drydock, and construction of three deck modules and accommodations progressed. In addition, fabrication of critical turbomachinery machinery was completed.

In parallel, the floating floating storage and offloading (FSO) facility (FSO) continues with its advanced engineering and will start fabrication in the second half of the year. Work is also actively underway on the anchoring system and fabrication of the disconnectable turret mooring, along with the anchor piles for FPU and FSO.

Subsea equipment and contracts awarded

The design, procurement and fabrication of subsea systems subsea systems and and gathering lines are in full swing. All subsea trees, control systems and associated equipment have been ordered and are in fabrication.

Woodside awarded all strategic contracts required for the current phase, including drilling and completion services, subsea pipeline installationFSO operations and maintenance, and marine support logistics.

Relationship with Pemex and local content

Since March 2025, the project costs are distributed according to the agreed participation: 60% for Woodside and 40% for Pemex. The company also finalized the delivery of its contractual commitments with the Mexican oil company. Mexican oil company.

A comprehensive sourcing plan was implemented to maximize local content. This includes strategies to integrate Mexican suppliers, collaboration networks with local actors, and capacity building programs to strengthen the regional supply chain.

Environmental commitment and operational future

Woodside has completed its biodiversity management plan for Trionin line with its other U.S. initiatives such as Beaumont, New Ammonia and Louisiana LNG. These plans reinforce its responsible development approach on all fronts.

With design, fabrication and planning activities underway, the Trion project is consolidating its position as one of the most important offshore oil infrastructure developments in Mexico, aiming for production start-up by 2028.
