The world’s first tandem twin-propeller wind turbine “Sairui”, developed by China Huaneng Company independently, successfully completed its hoisting at the Tongyu wind power plant in Jilin Province while the front wind turbine and the front wind turbine were being coupled. machine room. “Sairui” has entered the demonstration phase of full operation of the machine.
The “Sairui” twin-screw wind turbine, with a unit capacity of 2.7 MW, was independently developed by Huaneng Clean Energy Technology Research Institute (CERI) and hoisted by Huaneng’s Jilin subsidiary.
Unlike traditional wind turbines, “Sairui” captures wind energy through its front and rear propellers, almost halving the length of its blades for the same power.
Wind power reinvents itself: China’s twin-screw wind turbine promises higher efficiency and lower cost
After thoroughly studying the theory of cascaded aerodynamic energy capture with multi-drive blades, CERI has successfully developed a new type of blade and a synergic control system that solves the problems of low-efficiency wind energy capture and of oversized blade, and allows for the first time the efficient use of wind energy in cascade.
According to the design requirements of the twin propeller wind turbine, CERI achieved the development of the simulation design software, the manufacture of complete sets of key equipment and the formulation of experimental test methods, and carried out its layout of intellectual property, including hundreds of national invention patents and software copyrights, forming the world’s first tandem multi-propeller wind turbine basic theory and technology system of wind energy capture.
Compared with the single propeller wind turbine, the double propeller wind turbine reduces its cost by more than 10%, and increases its unit efficiency by 15%, saving the occupied area, expanding the exploitable scale of wind resources, thus which enjoys a broad prospect of widespread application.
