El alcance y meta de la energía renovable en Brasil para Vale

All of its operations are powered by renewable energy in Brazil, reaching this goal two years ahead of schedule in 2025.

The scope and goal of renewable energy in Brazil for Vale

All electricity consumed in its Brazilian facilities comes from clean energy sources, such as hydroelectric, wind and solar plants. This advance has allowed the company to completely eliminate its indirect CO₂ emissions in Brazil . However, it still faces the challenge of achieving 100% renewable energy consumption in its operations globally by 2030, with current progress reaching 88.5%.

With its commitment to reduce its direct and indirect carbon emissions by 33% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Vale continues to implement its decarbonization strategy. Ludmila Nascimento, Director of Energy and Decarbonization at Vale, highlighted the positive impact that this transition towards cleaner energies has for the country.

An essential factor for this anticipated achievement of objectives was the inauguration of the Sol do Cerrado solar complex in November 2022. This solar complex, located in Minas Gerais and with an investment of 590 million dollars, is one of the largest in Latin America.

The electrical capacity of the Vale company

With an installed capacity of 766 megawatts peak, the solar complex supports the energy consumption of a city of 800,000 inhabitants, and distributes about 16% of Vale’s total electricity consumption in the Brazilian country.

Since the 1990s, Vale has been committed to renewable energy, starting with the acquisition of its first hydroelectric plants. Currently, the company manages a renewable energy portfolio with a capacity of 2.6 GW, which could supply more than 3 million people.

In addition to its 14 renewable energy assets, Vale invests in innovation and partnerships to improve energy efficiency and reduces its direct emissions by replacing fossil fuels with cleaner options.
