Vortex Bladeless is an alternative way of harnessing wind energy, with radically different characteristics than conventional wind power generation. It is a wind turbine formed by a vertical conical cylinder anchored to the ground by means of an elastic rod that oscillates with the passage of air around it and, thanks to a system of coils and magnets, allows the generation of electricity with that movement.
It is not really a wind turbine since it does not rotate on an axis. It is based on the phenomenon of aeroelastic resonance, harnessing the energy of the wind in the emission of Von Karman vortices, a process called vortex shedding or vortex street. In this way, the device oscillates with a silent movement that makes it perfect to be placed anywhere without the need for lubricants or disturbance to the fauna.
In this way, Vortex creates a model of wind turbines different from conventional ones, with a significant number of potential benefits. According to its designers, the Bladeless is 60% more effective than the wind technology we know today, producing less noise and taking up less space.
Currently, Vortex experimentally manufactured the ‘Nano’ model, 85 centimeters high with a few watts of power, which is intended for demonstration and research work, they also developed the ‘Tacoma’ model, which reaches 3 kW of power and 2.75 meters high. Starting in October, Vortex will begin production of “a larger model.” The company plans to design turbines 140 meters high and with a power of 1 MW.
