Velesto Energy, in collaboration with the Malaysian Department of Occupational Safety and Health(DOSH), has officially launched OSH-SURE, a pilot program designed to strengthen safety preparedness across the entire ecosystem of oil and gas contractors and suppliers.

This launch took place in Putrajaya and was attended by senior executives from both entities, together with representatives of supplier companies, industrial partners and authorities of the country. The OSH-SURE program is the result of years of work from the Self-OSHWA framework, promoted since 2018 by DOSH and its technical allies.

This new approach provides a more robust structure for safety self-assessment, competency certification and ongoing training of Occupational Safety and Health(OSH) Coordinators. During the ceremony, Velesto Academy was officially recognized as an accredited training center for these technical profiles in the industry.

According to Megat Zariman Abdul Rahim, chairman of Velesto, the program represents a synergy between public standards and private sector capabilities, with the aim of raising security competencies across the country. “With this collaboration, we reinforce our commitment to a strong preventive culture and capacity building at all levels of the operational ecosystem,” he said.

The OSH-SURE framework is not limited to being a single, static initiative. It is conceived as an evolving tool that will be constantly updated based on feedback from the field and dialogue with strategic industry stakeholders. It will also enable a national roadmap to be drawn up with specific goals in terms of occupational risk preventionfrom the simplest activities to the most complex projects.
