The United States will soon begin buying back crude for its Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), the country’s Department of Energy said on Friday. The operation will begin with the purchase of the first 3 million barrels of oil in February 2023.
USA it will buy the crude for its strategic reserve at a fixed price, as President Joe Biden proposed in October of this year. This mechanism should eliminate oil price fluctuations and “give producers the security to make investments today, knowing that the price they receive when they sell to the SPR will be fixed.”
