Lars Lippuner, MCA’s UK client marine services director for the UK, said:

“This is an exciting time to be part of the maritime industry. With the Innovation Center, we strengthen our support for innovators to bring the latest technologies and discoveries to our shores.”

Regulatory support and at-sea testing

The Center will provide expert guidance throughout the regulatory process, from the prototype phase through to sea trials, helping innovators generate the evidence needed to obtain approvals under frameworks such as MGN 664, MGN 550 and Workboat Code Edition 3.

Decarbonization and global competitiveness

The initiative was announced as part of the UK Department for Transport’s Maritime Decarbonization Strategy and seeks to reduce the regulatory risks that often delay the adoption of new technologies. According to the MCA, innovators will have dedicated account management and early engagement opportunities, which will streamline approvals, reduce administrative burdens and accelerate the implementation of solutions with the potential for global impact.
